We are seeking two PhD Researchers in Statistics as part of the Marie-Curie Doctoral Network ‘LegumeLegacy’.

Position 1: This PhD project is titled ‘Analysing multi-site biodiversity experiments to assess the relative importance of species diversity, management decisions and environmental stresses across spatial and temporal gradients’. The PhD Researcher will be located at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and registered for a PhD there. This project will be supervised by Professor Caroline Brophy. Position 2: This PhD project is titled ‘Modelling the impact of management strategies and genotype by environment interactions from the LegumeLegacy multi-site experiment’. The PhD Researcher will be located at Teagasc, Wexford, Ireland, and registered for a PhD at Trinity College Dublin. This project will be primarily supervised by Dr John Finn (Teagasc) and co-supervised by Professor Caroline Brophy (Trinity College Dublin). Eligibility
* The PhD Researchers are required to undertake physical, transnational mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) to take up this appointment. They must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Ireland for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to their recruitment.
* At least a 2.1 grade (or equivalent) in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in statistics, mathematics or a closely related discipline is required. An undergraduate degree is essential, and a Master’s degree is highly desirable.
LegumeLegacy project
LegumeLegacy is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network titled ‘LegumeLegacy – Optimising multiple benefits of grass, legume and herb mixtures in crop rotations: modelling mechanisms and legacy effects’. It is funded under the Horizon-MSCA-DN-2021 programme and led by Professor Caroline Brophy at Trinity College Dublin. This project brings together Principal Investigators and collaborators from 14 academic and industry partners from across Europe and one Canadian partner. LegumeLegacy will hire and train 11 Doctoral Researchers and will implement a research programme aimed at improving the sustainability of farm-scale crop rotations. The role of multi-species grassland mixtures within crop rotations will be investigated in the search for solutions to develop lower nitrogen farming systems that will promote sustainable farming practices. Desde el Instituto de Ciencia de los Datos e IA (DATAI) de la Universidad de Navarra e Ingka Group Digital (IKEA Retail) hemos organizado un datathon presencial, abierto y gratuito (llamado «Datafest Spain«) para todos los universitarios o recién graduados en campos relacionados con la ciencia de datos, estadística, matemáticas, informática y similares. Los participantes se enfrentarán a datos y problemas reales proporcionados por IKEA y expondrán sus resultados ante un jurado mixto compuesto por profesionales independientes, académicos y empleados de IKEA.
Esta competición tendrá lugar desde el viernes 14 al domingo 16 de abril de 2023 en las oficinas del Hub Digital de IKEA en San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid. La competición se realizará en equipos de 2 a 5 personas y se proporcionará comida (desayuno, comida y cena) y espacio para que los equipos puedan trabajar sin necesidad de abandonar las instalaciones (excepto para dormir, que no se podrá pernoctar en estas instalaciones).
Agenda:
- El viernes 14, sobre las 18:00, habrá una sesión de bienvenida en la que se revelarán los datos y los retos.
- El sábado se dará acceso a los datos y los participantes se pondrán a trabajar en los retos propuestos.
- El domingo por la mañana los participantes podrán continuar trabajando hasta mediodía cuando se empezarán a evaluar los resultados obtenidos por el jurado. Durante la ceremonia de cierre se anunciarán los ganadores.
Es una gran oportunidad para que los alumnos apliquen sus conocimientos a casos reales y puedan demostrar sus habilidades a un empleador como IKEA que siempre está buscando talento.

2023 Founders of Statistics Prize: Call for submissions
The Founders of Statistics Prize for Contemporary Research Contributions is given in honor of the Founders of Statistics. It recognizes a research contribution that has had profound influence on statistical theory, methodology, practice, or applications. The contribution must be a research article or book published within the last three decades. The prize is given at the ISI World Statistics Congress (WSC) from 15 – 20 July 2023.
The prize comprises:
A monetary award of 5,000 euros, and the winner presents the Founders of Statistics Session at the WSC. If the contribution has multiple authors, the cash prize will be divided equally,
An economy class return ticket to the ISI World Statistics Congress (WSC). Travel support will only be provided for one of the authors to attend the WSC and present the lecture.
Per diem to cover accommodation, meal and incidental expenses.
Complementary registration fee is part of the prize.
Nominations for the Founders of Statistics Prize can be submitted online. The deadline for nominations is 10 March 2023.
