May 12: International Women’s Day in Mathematics
May 12 is International Women’s Mathematics Day in honor of Iranian mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, born May 12, 1977, and the first woman to win a Fields Medal; but the birth of Florence Nightingale, born on May 12, 1820, a pioneer in statistics, is also commemorated.
