The IBM Innovation Centre in Dublin is seeking exceptional candidates to conduct research in the areas of risk management, with the ability to apply such research to model risk and uncertainty in a variety of domains, including but not limited to: Healthcare, Energy and Environment, and IT operations. The successful candidate will be expected not only to make novel research contributions in the field, but also to interact with other researchers and academics at different institutions, apply modeling and programming skills to develop and implement risk models, and interpret and clearly communicate results to project stakeholders.
This role generates highly novel ideas (theoretical or experimental) in a specific engineering or scientific discipline and/or invents/designs complex products and/or processes. May be involved in engineering these ideas to an advanced state of feasibility by evaluating ideas and plans and participating in their implementation.
The full cycle of innovation to delivery is typically a multiple-year effort.
Disseminates, internally and externally, the results of such activities through publications, patent disclosures, seminar participation, internal documentation, etc. Represents IBM at professional meetings, in professional societies and universities. Functions as an internal consultant in the areas of professional expertise. May direct technically, and/or manage, within the broad mission of the group, activities of other research staff members and technical support persons.
Target compensation level:  50-65K  Euro/per annum, commiserate with experience, plus full benefits  

• Requirements:
  Doctorate Degree (or anticipated by July 2010)
  Expertise in one or more of the following areas: decision analysis, risk analysis, statistics, mathematics and probability,  stochastic optimisation, cognitive or behavioral psychology
  Proficiency with several of the following analysis tools: Matlab, R, SPSS, Excel
  Java and C++ programming a plus
