- Summary:
Following significant investment by the Faculty of Science, the School of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for two new Lectureships in Statistics with a starting date of 1 September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a strong research ethos and runs a long-established MSc in Statistics. The School offers Mmath and BSc undergraduate courses and provides service teaching of mathematics to other parts of the University: you will be expected to contribute to this undergraduate teaching as well as any specific duties outlined below. You will have an established record of high-quality research and of excellence in teaching, or be able to demonstrate strong potential in both research and teaching. You will be expected to carry out and publish high-quality research in an area of statistics, to supervise graduate students in statistics and to teach on the School’s MSc programmes in Statistics as well as at undergraduate level. Candidates with a background in any area of statistics, interpreted broadly, are encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly encouraged from statisticians with a solid methodological background and research interests in one or more of the following areas: archaeology, Bayesian methods, bioinformatics, ecology, environmental science, forensic science, genetics, health economics, materials science, medical statistics, multivariate analysis, particle physics and cosmology, solar and space physics, and uncertainty in computer models.
