Post-Doctoral Training Fellow in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics (MGU 513)
£30,162 (plus annual bioinformatics allowance £6,500 per annum, settlement and training allowances if applicable) Fixed Term for 3 years MRC Harwell Institute, Harwell, Oxfordshire

We are seeking a talented and motivated early-stage post-doctural training fellow Bioinformatics to join the Biocomputing programme at the MRC Harwell Institute.
You will take a lead role in analysing mouse phenotyping and sequencing data generated in collaboration with internal programs at Harwell (see Parsons et al., Cell 2015 162(3): 607-621). This research will heavily utilize genome-wide approaches that involve next generation sequencing technologies, high dimensional data acquisition and analysis and computational biology.
Responsibilities include conducting research in a particular area of mouse phenotyping such as sexual development, type 2 diabetes and neurological phenotypes and how this impacts both cellular pathways and the tissue specific environment.

The project will involve:

.Pipeline development - design and develop NGS pipelines to address novel analytical challenges, to automate and customise established pipelines for mouse data and process the results in a robust manner.
.Method development - develop methods, preferably deep learning methods for the analysis of mouse phenotypes alongside genomic data, across various data types for experimental design and translational research.
.Data analysis and interpretation - apply best practice statistical/computational methods to analyse and integrate biological data types including, gene expression, mutation, methylation, phenotyping, etc. to aid hypothesis driven experiments.

This is a major opportunity to extract scientifically useful information from large, rich and diverse datasets and the communication of these results to the wider scientific community. You will join a Biocomputing team of 5 postdocs and 2 graduate students working in the analysis of large scale mouse phenotyping data, the analysis of next generation sequencing data and 3D systems imaging, so you would join an exciting and dynamic team who work closely together.

To join us, you will need:

.A PhD in an appropriate discipline (or in the final stages)
.Have previously worked with NGS data, including one or more of the following BS-Seq, RNA-seq and / or ChIP-seq.
.Experience in the design and analysis of experiments that use next generation sequencing to gain information on gene expression regulation
.Excellent skills in programming, e.g. Python, Perl, C/C++, Java
.Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications or submitted manuscripts in high quality journals
.A willingness to travel and present work

The post is to support post-doctoral training and help establish successful research scientists in their chosen field. During the fellowship tenure we are committed to provide mentorship for career development and improvement of communication skills.
